Love Letters, a collaborative exchange of watercolor, ink, and poetry
Love Letters is the result of a long-distance creative conversation between Christine and me. I began each piece in watercolor, then sent them to Christine in Colorado, where she added pen, ink, and poems. Some pieces returned to me for additional layers, while others stayed in their original duet form. Each work captures a moment of dialogue — between two artists, two mediums, and two inner worlds.

Is it important
now to know
or to speak?
Is it foolish to offer
a name reducing
you to a label?
I wish not to disturb
other than the self-
important reason
to have mutual
acknowledgement.
Honest before
you, in awe of your holism,
fortunate to catch
a singular plane snap
of a glimpse of your
balance. Do I pull
strength from you
because I am of you,
who determines and
destroys so much.
You are needed, and we attune.
I attune to you.

inverted city
ever present
I could stare
however long
the moment lasted
into the great columns
light atop the tallest
hill you reach
through wavelengths
we meet in the lush
low in branched
drapery.
on treks ashore
if found and resilient,
as we leave delicate,
disruptive still.
forever mossy
limbs lie woven.
